New Straits Times

led with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak launching a RM100 million Business Start-up Fund (BSF). He said it was part of the government’s continuous efforts to improve the people’s well-being.

Malay newspapers             

Utusan Malaysia front-paged Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob as saying that the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2010 will be enforced to protect the interests of consumers starting tomorrow.

 

Berita Harian also led with the launch of the Business Start-up Fund by Najib.

Sinar Harian headlined former Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin stating that before a sentence is imposed, the matter must be investigated thoroughly and clarification sought first, including on cult groups.

Chinese newspapers

Oriental Daily News, China Press and Sin Chew Daily all front-paged that a 25-year-old youth has been sentenced to death by the Johor High Court for the murder and kidnapping of 16-year-old Lai Ying Xin in 2008.

Nanyang Siang Pau front-paged that many containers are stuck in Klang North Port as custom officers are worried that MACC may take action against them, and this is causing a delay in signing release documents.

New Straits Times commented on the dirty condition of school canteens. An inspection was carried out at 150 premises by a joint education ministry and health ministry committee to tackle food poisoning in school, resulting in the suspension of 122 operators and 22 others to cease operations.

Berita Harian commented that the Sarawak people will be better off in terms of prosperity and and development under the BN manifesto, which is expected to be launched any time as announced by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday. The manifesto is already in the final stages of completion, he said.

 

Nanyang Siang Pau urged the government and the public to maintain a healthy credit card debt level.

China Press commented that the Seberang Perai Municipal Council’s allocation of RM4.3 million a year to maintain 201 traffic lights is not reasonable.

said that since the government has decided to recognise degrees from China, it is high time for it to recognise degrees from Taiwan as well.
