The MIC’s central working committee unanimously decided to postpone all its party elections until after the 13th general election, following similar decisions by BN partners MCA, Gerakan and Umno.

The Indian party in a statement today announced the decision to put off branch, divisional, national level and presidential elections until after the polls, widely speculated to take place soon.

Party secretary-general S Murugessan said the move would ensure the party gave its undivided attention to the upcoming GE.

Murugessan also announced that Vell Paari, former MIC president S Samy Vellu’s son, has been appointed as the chairperson of the newly-established publicity and communication bureau.

The party is publishing an in-house bulletin called MIC Times on May 1 to disseminate news of its activities at the grassroots level.
