Dominique Ng quits PKR, to stand as Independent

Pemerhati: Anyone from the opposition who now contests will split the votes and might help the corrupt Abdul Taib Mahmud to win the elections.

Dropped Padungan representative Dominique Ng will be doing the people of Sarawak and Malaysia a great disservice and obviously does not have the interest and welfare of the people of Sarawak and Malaysia at heart.

His behaviour suggests that he is either extremely selfish and has an exaggerated opinion of himself or has succumbed to some huge reward from BN. The leadership of any political party cannot make decisions that would make everyone happy but any sensible person should have the good sense to realise that nothing should be done to jeopardise the opposition's chance of removing a very corrupt and evil regime.

Ikiedetector: Dominique Ng, I have a question to ask you. In 2006, DAP gave Padungan state seat to PKR, which was subsequently won by you. Did you or did you not campaign against the DAP candidate in the 2008 GE in the Stampin parliamentary seat, which DAP subsequently lost?

Mikey: I can't understand why Dominique Ng, who has a good record in Padungan, would be cast aside. Similarly DAP's Voon Lee Shan.

Both these guys were in the opposition when Chong Chieng Jen and the current crop of DAP leaders were running around in their nappies. They have shown perseverance and commitment.

I see this as personal vendetta from the state leadership against people with independent minds. Sad to say, Pakatan Rakyat has not shown it can govern in Sarawak. Those who say Ng cannot see the big picture, ask yourself why Chong cannot stand aside for him? After all, he has a parliamentary seat.

Naaah! : I am an old member of PKR. Old enough to welcome Dominique Ng when he joined the party. As a tested people's representative and party leader, he is outspoken and served his constituents well. I believe that he quit PKR for feeling betrayed and is not for other disgraceful reasons.

However, I sincerely hope that Dominique would re-consider his decision to quit the party and to stand as independent candidate in the coming Sarawak state election. Please stay with the party and focus on Sarawak people's main agenda of this election - to change the government.

Dominique is a friend and comrade that I have great respect for. So, Dominique, please come back and continue your fight against injustice.

Multi Racial: The problem in Malaysia is that our political maturity is still at an infancy level. Most of the politicians are there for themselves and not for the country. It is all about what is it in for me. Be it BN, Pakatan and independent politicians, they are all the same.

Having said that, we can see some slight improvement but we are still a long way to go. Most of the politicians are like Dominique. They want to be selected and if the party did not select them, then they either become frogs or they stand at independent. It's so pathetic.

But for Malaysians, it is not who is better. It is who is the lesser devil. BN to most Malaysians is a uncontrollable monster that cannot be tamed. It needs to be hurt badly to wake them up, and unfortunately we can only do it through the ballot box as all other means have failed.

Kutty: At a time such as this, when Pakatan is under attack from all fronts, we should be standing united for the greater good. Dominique, if your intention is truly to serve the rakyat, then there's no place for personal vendetta.

The greater good is what matters, and that's all that matters in principle. History taught us that it takes a really great man to sacrifice the things he lust after the most for his fellow men, including personal aspirations, lust and greed.

The Coast Guard's motto is ‘So others may live'. It would do you a lot of good to remember that. Are you one of the really great man? Or are you another Umno-style politician? You decide how history is going to be written about you long after you are gone from this world.

Loyal Malaysian: The cloudy water is get murkier. Until and unless, PKR clarifies the circumstances surrounding the dropping of Ng, I will accept his version of events. And it is not a pretty sight to see PKR dropping an incumbent who is a hard worker.

Upset Sarawakian Opposition Supporter: Dominique Ng, as a Sarawakian and resident in Kuching, we know you and the work you have done; thus we understand and sympathise with your feelings of betrayal by Sarawak PKR.

I do not understand why PKR and DAP need to swap seats vis-a-vis Padung/Batu Lintang and unless they come up with a clarification, I will go with the common perception that Pakatan wants to kill two birds with one stone, that is, remove you and Voon Lee Shan at the same time as both of you are mavericks in your own respective party.

However, I do not accept your decision to contest as an Independent and force a three-cornered fight. By doing so, you are benefitting BN as definitely, you will split the opposition votes and BN will emerge the winner.

Do you politicians even think of what we, the voters want? We want to get rid of Sarawak BN and here you are, trying to show how much support you have from opposition supporters vis-a-vis DAP. It's a selfish move. Please reconsider for the greater good of the future of Sarawak.

Fairplayer: Dominique Ng, aren't you helping the corrupt regime by doing that? Please stay calm and composed. Continue to support PKR and accept that they have you in mind for the parliamentary seat.

If they do not fulfil their promise for the parliamentary election, then perhaps it is justifiable that you go independent. As it is, you look like one who is throwing tantrums and that doesn't go down well as far as dignity is concerned. I hope you can be more level-headed. Think of the higher and general good.

Ferdtan: In the last election of 2008, PKR cannot get enough candidates to contest all the seats, as nobody were interested then and thought it would be a futile exercise to give BN a token fight.

However, with the political tsunami, a miracle happened and many PKR candidates were successful in the last election. Now many wannabes want to be candidates at all cost - even to the extent of blackmailing the party, or quitting the party. There are the kind of leaders we get or going to get today - all self-serving.

Ghkok: People are very strange. People always say that they vote for the party - that's the main reason why they are against party-hopping. If people vote for the party, then it shouldn't matter which candidate the party selects. Now, people are grumbling about "PKR betraying Dominique". That's bullshit.

The party have a right to select any candidate. People have a right to vote any candidate. The new candidate may be 10,000 times better than Dominique.

Anonymous_5fb: Dominique Ng, I share with you your disappointment. My advice to you is to hold steadfastly on your principles that you shared with Pakatan Rakyat and prove to Sarawakians that you are genuine in your political struggle by not contesting as an Independent.

There's always be a brighter tomorrow if one holds true to one's political struggle and belief.
