The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) lodged a police report today over an online news portal’s article claiming that a number of people have died while under MACC's investigation over the past few years.

MACC senior superintendent Mohd Azwan Ramli lodged the report at the Putrajaya police headquarters in Putrajaya at 4pm.

Speaking to reporters earlier, Mohd Azwan said the news portal based its report on a statement by Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming.

Nga was also quoted by the news portal as urging the government to come up with a guideline to ensure the safety of witnesses or other individuals under their investigation.

MACC chief commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed declined to comment on Nga’s statement or other issues, including on the death of Selangor customs assistant director, Ahmad Sarbani Mohamed, 56.

Ahmad Sarbani was found dead on the first floor of the Kuala Lumpur MACC office on Wednesday.
