The Kuala Lumpur High Court (Appellate and Special Powers division) has fixed June 16 as the hearing date for Sungai Siput MP Dr D Jeyakumar’s judicial review application.

This was despite the Attorney-General’s Chambers filing an appeal on March 23 over the High Court’s decision to grant leave to Jeyakumar, who is the sole MP from Parti Sosialis Malaysia.

In judicial review cases, leave (permission) had to be gained before the whole application can be heard.

The matter came up for case management before a High Court senior assistant registrar today.

Lawyer Mahaletchumi Balakrishnan appeared for Jeyakumar, while Nadya Hanim represented the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

Lawyer K Shanmuga represented MPs M Manogaran, Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli and Liew Chin Tong, while Shamala Balasundram appeared for Khalid Samad.

The judicial review is to challenge the federal government’s move not to give Pakatan MPs direct access to their constituency’s allocation.
