Najib Abdul Razak said BN victory in the Sarawak state election was very meaningful and showed that the people's confidence in BN was still high.

In a video conference with Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud in Kuching, the prime minister who was at the Putra World Trade Centre, congratulated Taib and Sarawak BN on the meaningful win despite a strong challenge from the opposition this time.

"There have been big majority or increased majority wins in several constituencies.

"With this, what we need to do is to give a lot of thanks to the people of Sarawak for retaining their support and trust in BN," he said.

Najib, who went to the ground to campaign in the state election which has been described as the stiffest in the state's history, said the federal government would ensure that all promises made to the people of Sarawak would be fulfilled.

BN has already secured two-thirds majority or 48 seats in the state election with 71 seats contested.

Also present were Najib's wife Rosmah Mansor, Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein and party secretary-general Tengku

Adnan Tengku Mansor.

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin was with Taib in Kuching during the video conference.

Taib, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) president, said he was grateful for the victory and with BN continuing to rule Sarawak.

He said Sarawak BN would continue to work at developing Sarawak so that the development would be in tandem with that in other states.

"We in Sarawak would like to thank the prime minister and deputy prime minister for working tirelessly, visiting the various constituencies during the election campaign.

"This shows that we want to make the people's interests, our priority," said Taib who retained the Balingian seat with a comfortable 5,154-vote majority.

Taib also thanked the people of Sarawak for giving their support to BN in the state election.

"The majority votes in several areas have gone up.... high, showing the people's confidence in us. Although the campaigning style has changed in addition to the challenges, the people continued to conduct themselves well and remained courteous."

He said he also prayed that in future, Sarawak would be able to fulfil all the promsises made in this state election.

"Some of the promises have already been fulfilled by the prime minister himself, and we will fulfil the rest," he said.
