The bigger win by the DAP in the 10th Sarawak state election recently cannot be taken as a yardstick in gauging the Chinese community’s support for the BN.

BN Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said everyone in the BN must sit together to find ways of regaining the support of the Chinese community for the BN.

“In several other by-elections previously, the support of the Chinese community for the BN had improved but this was not the case in Sarawak, that’s why we cannot make an assessment that the support of this (Chinese) community for us has been eroded.

“We must look at the causes for the erosion (of support) and everyone in the BN must find an approach to regain their support for us later,” he said after participating in a programme to repair houses in Kampung Beta under the BN Youth One Malaysia tour programme in Kota Baru today.

In the Sarawak state election on April 16, BN continued to get the two-thirds majority when it won 55 out of the 71 seats contested while the DAP won 12 seats, PKR three and Independent one.

On the One Malaysia Tour, Khairy said the first phase had been completed while the second would begin in Sabah soon.
