Penang MIC chairman P Subbaiyah will take his oath as a senator this Monday, replacing former Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department T Murugiah.

A statement issued by Parliament today stated that the former Penang state executive council member was scheduled to take the oath with Deputy Human Resource Minister Maznah Mazlan, who had been reappointed a senator for a second term.

NONE In the 2008 general election, Subbaiyah ( right ) lost in the contest for the Bagan Dalam state seat.

His nomination for the senatorship was said to have been submitted by MIC president G Palanivel to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak several weeks ago.

Palanivel wants to limit to only one term for MIC members as senator to provide an opportunity for other leaders in the party to be in the senate.

Murugiah was appointed a senator in 2008 on the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) ticket. The former PPP Youth chief joined MIC last year after he was expelled from PPP.
