MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek has incurred the DAP’s wrath for claiming that the party wants a 'monopoly' of Penang.

Komtar assembly NONE person Ng Wei Aik (left) condemned this as an "irresponsible comment by the leader of the second-largest party in BN".

Ng, who is political secretary to Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, said the DAP prides itself on being a multi-racial party with more Indian Malaysian MPs than any other.

"Our commitment to multi-racialism continues with the inclusion of many Malay members as well...(for example) the Penang DAP’s representative to the Dewan Negara is Tunku Abdul Aziz," said Ng.

Ng clarified that Lim, the DAP national secretary-general, was merely telling MCA not to contest in the state if it is not happy with a ‘Chinese vs Chinese’ scenario in the next election.

The DAP welcomes "healthy and constructive opposition" to its administration of Penang,  irrespective of race, noted Ng.

Chua had said yesterday that the call to MCA not to contest in Penang shows that the DAP wants a monopoly of the state.

Saying this contradicts DAP's previous statements that it wants a two-party system in place, Chua had also accused the party of fanning emotions by using the ‘Chinese fighting Chinese' slogan.

‘Who’s racist now?’

Ng countered that it is the MCA that continues to judge all forms of electoral contests in Malaysia through the racial lens.

"BN has shown that it is not a government for all Malaysians, as they have warned fellow Malaysians about unequal treatment if members of their community are noted voted in.

“In other words, they are telling the Chinese community ‘we may not do a good job, but you have no choice’.”

Ng said Chua should not pass the buck to the DAP for his inability to stand up to his political masters in Umno.

"DAP has challenged MCA time and again to leave the BN since it is not happy with Umno’s statements and policies, but it has refused...now it accuses us of conspiring with Umno," he said.

"The last we checked, MCA is a partner of Umno, not the DAP."
