Kedah PAS today denied that the group of 225 people who submitted their membership forms to join Kuala Kedah Umno were its members.

Kuala Kedah PAS vice-chief Nasir Mustafa said the report was inaccurate and that the party was contemplating going to the court to stop such people from claiming to be PAS members when they quit the party.

"We can take action against them for lying. They are not PAS members," he told a media conference today.

Meanwhile, Kuala Kedah Umno vice-chief Abdul Muthalib Haron, when contacted by Bernama, said the 225 people were PAS supporters and some of them were registered members of the party.

"We have checked who they are. We do not blindly accept their Umno membership forms or make a statements on such matters," he added.

Yesterday, 225 people who claimed to be Kuala Kedah PAS members said they had lost confidence in the leadership of Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak and announced that they were leaving the party to join Umno.

The group, led by Lahar Buluh PAS branch leader Ahmad Marzuki, handed their Umno membership forms to Kuala Kedah Umno division chief Latt Shariman Abdullah.
