Police are currently identifying those behind the distribution of copies of the sex video allegedly depicting an opposition leader, obtained by several VIPs including politicians recently.

Kapar MP S.Manikavasagam was one of the recipients of parcels containing a compact disc showing a sex act involving a man who allegedly resembles PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar said police viewed the matter seriously as it could jeopardise ongoing police investigations on the sex video.

"We can confirm that a number of VIPs including politicians have received copies of the video believed to have been distributed by certain parties.

Several police reports have been lodged," he said.

A thorough probe is being conducted to identify those responsible and what may be their motives, he told reporters after opening the Asean Anti-Smuggling and Anti-Human Trafficking Course in Kuala Lumpur today.

Ismail did not rule out the possibility of fresh clips of the sex video recording being uploaded to the Internet.

In this era of modern technology, he said, the police were unable to put a stop to such distribution.

Ismail said the investigation papers on the sex video footage was being finalised and would be submitted to the Attorney-General's Chambers as soon as possible for further action.

Asked on businessman Shazryl Eskay Abdullah whose statement was recorded at the Kepong police station today, he said it was a normal procedure aimed at completing the probe.

In another development, Ismail said cooperation between the Malaysian police force and regional as well as international police agencies had been enhanced in efforts to maintain the security of the country.

A total of 40 police, immigration and customs officers and those representing other agencies are taking part in the course.
