The BN is confident of wresting back six parliamentary seats in the Federal Territory from the opposition in the coming 13th general election.

NONE Federal Territory Umno deputy chairman Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said this was based on the increasing support, especially from the Indian voters, for the coalition in several by-elections that were held.

"I was informed by the (Umno) president (Najib Razak) that in this year's by-elections, the percentage of Indian voters who support BN is higher than other races, which is almost 80 percent.

"Our chance of wresting back the seats is bright. What is important is for all the component parties to be united," he told reporters after opening the Batu Umno divisional delegates meeting here today.

In the last general election, BN was only able to retain the Setiawangsa, Putrajaya and Labuan seats, and lost the Batu, Titiwangsa, Bandar Tun Razak, Lembah Pantai, Wangsa Maju and Segambut seats to the opposition.

The other four seats in the Federal Territory, namely, Cheras, Kepong, Seputeh and Bukit Bintang are DAP strongholds.

BN should not be complacent

However, Raja Nong Chik said, the current change in support among the voters should not make the BN leaders to feel complacent.

Instead, he said, it should motivate them to work harder.

In another development, Raja Nong Chik, who is Federal Territories and Urban Well-being Minister, announced the setting up of the Federal Territory Representatives Council to serve as a bridge between the government and local community leaders.

He said members of the council would be announced later and that their appointment would be for a two-year term.
