The All-Malaysian Indian Progressive Front (IPF) today reiterated its stand that it would not merge with the MIC.

However, IPF president M Sambanthan said the party was willing to work closely with MIC to ensure victory for BN candidates in any election.

Prior to this, various quarters, including former MIC president S Samy Vellu, had proposed the merger of the two parties to fight for the benefit of the Indian community.

Meanwhile, Sambanthan said IPF would make several amendments on the party's constitution at its 19th annual general assembly, scheduled for July 26.

"Among the proposed amendments is the increase of the presidential term to three years from the current two.

"This amendment is in line with the current development to ensure that the party will remain relevant to the people in the country, especially Indians," he told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur.

He said the party had 80,000 members nationwide.
