His special officer Terrirudin Mohd Salleh said the meeting will be arranged as soon as possible so that both parties can address the issues raised by the Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee (KLBC) regarding the abolition of the system.
He added that the chief justice will also look into the report compiled by the KLBC, which claimed that lawyers favoured the system.
"He (Ahmad Fairuz) gave his assurance that he will look into the reports and arrange for a meeting to settle the issues," said Terrirudin when contacted.
Effective system
Last September, the judiciary under the helm of then chief justice Mohamed Dzaiddin Abdullah had
introduced
the system as part of a reorganisation exercise to ensure "uniformity, expeditious and efficient disposal of cases with optimum use of judicial time".
However early this month, Ahmad Fairuz announced that the system was scrapped as it did not live up to the expectations of the judiciary in terms of disposal of cases.
The Bar Council criticised the move, stating that the judiciary should have had a more comprehensive discussion with the lawyers before making the decision.
Yesterday
KLBC
chairperson Ragunath Kesavan said the decision was made before the judiciary had the chance to look into their report.
He added that lawyers supported the system because they found that issues concerning postponement of cases had decreased and matters - especially interlocutory applications - were dealt with expeditiously.
