The glory days of the Sarawak National Party are long gone and its supporters should realise that Snap is no longer a reliable political platform, Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party vice-president Sylvester Entri Muran said today.

After all its 26 candidates were defeated in the recent state election, with 25 of them losing their deposits, SNAP should cease from politics, he said.

"That (the outcome) shows the people is not supporting Snap. To me, Snap should just close shop," he told reporters, commenting on the party's decision to withdraw from a pact with the DAP, PKR and PAS.

The SPDP vice-president, standing for Barisan Nasional, handily won Marudi  in the April 16 election, defeating Snap president Edwin Dundang Bugak, PKR's Gerang Dagom and Independent Michael Ding Tuah.

Entri polled 4,578 votes while Dundang managed only 281 and lost his deposit.

The DAP had wanted Snap as an ally as a way for the opposition to gain a foothold in Dayak-majority areas.

But disagreement with PKR over seat allocation led to SNAP going its own way in the election.

Entri, who is Sarawak Assistant Minister of Land Development and Water Supply, said the decisions that SNAP made over the years showed that the party had no "proper principle".

"They keep on playing with the sentiment of being the oldest party (in Sarawak) and a historical party but this doesn't go down well now with the people," he added.
