Malay newspapers

Sinar Harian frontpaged the demonstration by some 100 residents of Kampung Sungai Kerandang in Bukit Tarik, to protest the forest recovery exercise by Selangor Forestry Department, which will see residential land being taken away.

Berita Harian led with the education ministry’s statement that it will lease out abandoned quarters to other government agencies, to ensure that the buildings are not left unattended.

Chinese newspapers

Oriental Daily News

led with Umno president Najib Abdul Razak's speech in conjunction with the party’s 65th anniversary. He called on members to prepare for general election, widely speculated to be called this year.

Both Sin Chew Daily and China Press led with the apology of the parents of three students to the parents of a 13-year-old who was bullied by the trio. The incident had sparked a public uproar after it was recorded and uploaded on Facebook and YouTube.

Nanyang Siang Pau highlighted Najib’s announcement that the government will implement GST once the people accept it.

The New Straits Times expressed support for the ban on shark fishing announced by the Sabah state tourism, culture and environment minister.

Berita Harian

commended the new evaluation system adopted by the civil service to judge the performance of civil servants. The system is said to be more comprehensive and fair, and will gather feedback from supervisors, colleagues and subordinates during such exercises.

Sin Chew Daily urged the government to implement long-term solutions to improve the economy by reducing obstacles faced by investors. These include inefficient public delivery and outdated laws and regulations. Utusan Malaysia accused PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim of practising uncivil politics by swearing and cursing at Umno and BN. It said that Anwar has become a liability to the opposition.
