The candlelight vigil to commemorate 60 days of aggression in the Indonesian province of Aceh saw a greater show of police force than citizen solidarity outside the Indonesian embassy on Jalan Tun Razak in Kuala Lumpur last night

The vigil, organised by citizens' initiative Solidarity for Aceh, was only able to gather with their candles for ten minutes before being dispersed by uniformed and non-uniformed police personnel.

The small crowd of 15 were also disallowed from displaying banners calling for an end to martial law and military aggression in Aceh.

Approximately 30 uniformed police provided tight security around the perimeter of the embassy building.

In reading out a press statement, Solidarity representative Yin Shao Loong called on the Indonesian government to stop its operations in the region and return to the negotiation table in the spirit of peace and human rights.
