Assistant to Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy has been accused of “threatening to cause harm” by a MIC Youth member who is critical of the Penang government.

The MIC Kampung Meru youth chief, 37-year-old G Kalaicelvan lodged a police report yesterday and another today, claiming to have received threats through calls and SMS warning him to stop criticising the DAP led Penang government.

Kalaicelvan has been actively questioning the state government on his Twitter , particularly on Ramasamy and the government's efforts to alleviate the Indian community’s problems.

NONE He alleges that Ramasamy’s assistant Satees Muniandy, who takes charge of responding to public tweets to the deputy chief minister, is the culprit.

“At one point, in reply to my tweet, Satees accused me of receiving contracts from the Penang government through the backdoor, and following that he had even used profane words against me and MIC Youth,” said Kalaicelvan when contacted.

He added that he had officially complained about Satees’ behaviour to DAP Youth chief Anthony Loke.

“Subsequently Satees had come to know of the complaint and he got my (mobile) number and I strongly believe that he is using anonymous numbers to send me these threats,” said Kalaicelvan.

Kalaicelvan, who lives in Klang, Selangor, was speaking at a media conference this morning at the MIC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

According to him, the SMS in Tamil had warned Kalaicelvan to quit commenting on the state government, threatening him with harm and his daughter and wife with rape, and contained profanities and death threats.

“I believe when you are in public office you are open to criticism... if they don’t to answer my questions they can ignore... that is professional conduct,” he said, adding that he had enough evidence to back his claims.

“I just want to know why are they coming after my family... if anything were to happen, in future, I will hold DAP solely responsible,” said Kalaicelvan.

Ramasamy: I answer my own tweets

Ramasamy has however denied the allegations and when contacted, appeared surprised at the claims.

NONE “I don’t even know who he is... there are hundreds of people who are critical of DAP, what is so special about his comments?” Ramasamy told Malaysiakini .

Ramasamy ( left ), who is also the Batu Kawan MP added that he personally responds to tweets directed to him and that he blocks anyone who is abusive on Twitter .

“Why should Sateesh reply on my behalf? I don’t allow such things to happen,” said the deputy CM II.
