A central committee member of Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) who objected to phantom voters on the Election Commission (EC) voter registration list in Sungai Siput, Perak, today lodged a police report against an MIC official for threatening him with vulgarities.

Kunasekaran Krishnan lodged the report at the Sungai Siput police station at 1pm today after he was verbally abused by MIC councillor Loganathan at the Sungai Siput Land office this morning.

"Loganathan, who was accompanied by 10 to 15 others, hurled vulgar words at me and said 'You put in an objection, and I'll teach you a lesson'," Kunasekaran told malaysiakini by telephone this afternoon.

The incident was alleged to have occurred during an EC public enquiry initiated by PSM, who said that 20 people had raised objections against 402 phantom voters in the Sungai Siput parliamentary constituency which is represented by MIC chief S Samy Vellu.

The four-day public inquiry which began yesterday was conducted by Perak Election Commission deputy director Shahidan Yusof, aided by federal officers.

According to PSM candidate for Sungai Siput Dr Jeyakumar Devaraj, the inquiry got off to a good start yesterday with 43 phantom voters called up and a decision finally made to remove 41 of them from the roll.

In last November polls, Jeyakumar garnered 12,221 votes against Samy's 17,480 votes.
