BN Youth has urged the government to retain subsidy on RON95 petrol and at the same time find savings elsewhere to cover the cost of higher oil price.

NONE Its chief Khairy Jamaluddin ( right ) said the government should review the expenditure on less effective programmes so that the money could be be use for more important things.

"Savings from less effective government programmes can be used for the people's welfare.

"The petrol subsidy has to be retained as the inflation rate is too high," he said in the Radio24 programme 'Kerusi Panas' in Kuala Lumpur today.

The government plans to review subsidy on RON95 petrol which is currently fixed at RM1.90 per litre.

The less effective programmes include National Service Training (PLKN) which cost RM560mil annually and those at luxury hotels.

Khairy who is also Umno Youth chief said the call was not because of general election but in the interest of the people who were burdened by rising price of goods.

"We want to remind the government not to place more burden on the people," he added.
