All 17 councillors of the Sungai Petani Municipal Council today submitted a memorandum to the Kedah Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak, demanding an investigation be conducted on the council’s president, Rozaina Radzi.

Their spokesperson, Ishak Man, said apart from losing confidence in Rozaina, they also wanted the higher authorities to investigate the council’s secretary, Radzuan Osman, or have him transferred out to another department.

He said the action had to be taken in the interest Sungai Petani residents  following the demolition of stalls along Jalan Cinta Sayang by the council on May 26, which was carried out without first discussing the matter with the councillors.

“The council never discussed the action with us, and after this, we will not attend any meetings of the council until we have a new president,” he told reporters after handing over the memorandum to Azizan at Wisma Darul Aman, in Alor Setar today.

Ishak also alleged that the president was seldom in her office and was always outside the municipality area leaving a lot of work to be outstanding.

Meanwhile, Azizan said despite it being an isolated case, he would, however investigate the matter and would discuss it with those concerned to find an amicable solution.

“At times, traders are also breaking the rules and we have to use discretion in resolving such matters,” he said.
