'Umno offered 3 ministers' posts to form unity gov't'

Quigonbond: It's actually quite an intelligent calculation on the part of Umno. PAS is the moral/Islamic backbone of Pakatan Rakyat, without which it is difficult to say that Pakatan is representative of the majority of this country.

With PAS back into BN fold, we will undoubtedly have a Malaysia torn between staunch Malay nationalist supporters - no matter the cost of corruption and abuse of power - and the discerning Malaysians who probably still form the minority in terms of voting power.

That's why Umno through Utusan Malaysia is now attacking PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat because he is set against PAS joining BN. In what appears to be an attempt to cast doubt between Pakatan parties. Recently there is also a hint that Umno wants DAP into the BN fold because MCA/Gerakan can no longer secure the Chinese votes.

My hope is for Pakatan to stay as one. Don't let dirty tactics backed by federal power change anyone's mind that there's only one legitimate road to Putrajaya, free from BN, hard as it may be.

Instead of repenting and reforming, they go to PAS, offering them three ministers' posts in the so-called unity government. This only shows how desperate Umno is in hanging on to power.

Umno, the issue is not about the power, but how capable, accountable and transparent you are in executing the power entrusted upon you by the rakyat. What can the three ministers' posts do for rakyat?

Even a MCA deputy minister in education has no say on the awarding of scholarships by the Public Service Department's little Napoleons. What is the use of having this or that minister in an Umno-controlled cabinet?

Wira: Will PAS join the corrupt? Will God not be more pleased if the righteous throw out the corrupt instead?

Kgen: Umno must be desperate but they will not succeed. Nik Aziz has principles and he's politically smart. What's the point of three ministers' posts without power, such as tourism, youth, culture, sports and science and unity?

Only eunuchs like MCA, MIC and Gerakan will be satisfied.

By Election Fan: I have the highest respect for Tok Guru for his staunch stand to be with Pakatan, knowing that Umno is merely using PAS as an emergency float to save them from their sinking Titanic, as a result of scandals and corruption.

I won't be surprised to hear perhaps later on that they are offering a second DPM post for PAS and oil royalty in one lump sum to Kelantan and more. This is a desperate act of a dying regime.

Anticommunalist: The entire Pakatan backbone and its existence is focused around Nik Aziz. Should he go, PAS will disintegrate into Umno's hands.

It will be interesting to see how Lim Guan Eng and Lim Kit Siang react then. They seem ultra confident to go out and woo the Malay voters and sideline the Indians. Somehow nature might just come back to bite them.

M'siaKiniFan: If PAS is to join Umno, it would also mean they support the corruption of BN and Abdul Taib Mahmud. I don't think so. Umno can dream on.

I'm not a Muslim but if they move PAS candidates into my area, I would, without a single doubt, vote for PAS. Race or religion does not matter as long as the candidate is capable of good governance and is corruption-free.

Salleh Nordin: PAS is stupid. Forget about principles. No one cares about your principles anymore. They should just take up the offer. It is not so easy to get such offers. I'm sure PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa would be waiting to be ministers before the end of their time. Go for it.

Abil: PAS should demand the PM's post so that there will be a just government, which can practice Islamic principles in ruling the country. Malaysians, by and large, want a government that is responsive to the people and is transparent and accountable.

Isa@1penyu: Nik Aziz and Anwar Ibrahim are good drama makers. If the offer is true, why don't they be brave enough to name the leaders involved or at least make a police report or go to MACC.

This is a typical style of making accusations for the sake of politics without providing any evidence. Anyone can say that BN will fall on Sept 16, that BN will lose in the Sarawak tsunami, or that giving money to Orang Asli during elections is helping them. The list goes on.

It's PAS election time so a lot of stories will be generated to show that one is more PAS then the other. So many stories... only God knows the truth.

Werewolves: There is a drama series on 8TV, ‘All Men Are Brothers'. It is base on classic Chinese novel ‘The Water Margin'.

Its main character, Song Jiang, after forming a large army, decided to join the corrupt government to secure a ‘future' for his followers, but instead this brought the downfall of his group, resulting in his death and many of his ‘brothers'.

This will be the fate of PAS if it joins with Umno. And it will lead to the demise of its ‘brothers' in Pakatan too.

SMC77: Unity government? It is more like a 1Malay government or 1Muslim government. If PAS ever agrees to this proposal, it will fall into the trap set up by Perkasa and Umno. PAS will be the laughing stock in the world as it could have formed government with PKR and DAP but chose instead to be a junior partner in BN.

Ablastine: Why would PAS agree to join Umno when it can now - with popular rakyat support and together with PKR and DAP in Pakatan - takes over Putrajaya in the next election?

When Pakatan takes over the federal government PAS will definitely have more than three ministers in the cabinet. If PAS joins Umno now despite having three inconsequential ministerial position, they will still have little say in ruling the country all the same. However in Pakatan, PAS is one of the three main parties and that definitely gives it more say.

Further, joining the corrupt Umno now will just serve to taint its image especially when it has to abandon two good partners in Pakatan. Umno says Malay unity, but unity for what and against what. Is it unity to whack compatriots from other races and bankrupt the country?

The Chinese and Indians never talk about unity. They just want the country to prosper by working together. Whichever way you look at it, there is no benefit for PAS to join Umno.

Docs: Five times asking the same question to Nik Aziz and getting the same answer, Umno must either be dense in the head, can't understand Malay (or Kelantanase Malay) or desperate. Perhaps all of the above.

Changeagent: If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. This is the one consistent mantra that Umno lives and dies by without fail.

If Sodomy I did not kill off Anwar Ibrahim's political career, then try Sodomy II. If that doesn't work too, try getting some questionable characters called the 'Datuk T trio' to implicate him in a sex video.

Similarly here, if Nik Aziz rejects the idea to form a joint government with BN for a fifth time, try asking him a sixth time. If he rejects the sixth approach too, then try asking him a seventh time.

Umno's dogged persistence could have been admirable had it not been so misplaced and misguided to protect their own self-interests and selfish grip on political power.

Macham2: PAS should make a counter offer - maybe five ministerial posts for Umno.
