Raja Saidatul Ihsan Tengku Badar Shah, mother of Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, died today, the sultan’s private secretary, Mohamad Munir Bani, said. She was 88.

Raja Saidatul Ihsan died at 9 am at Ampang Puteri Hospital in Shah Alam, he said.

Her remains were laid to rest at the Selangor Royal Mausoleum at 4.35 pm after prayers at the royal mosque at the Istana Alam Shah in Klang.

Mohamad Munir said in a statement that the sultan had ordered the state flag to be flown at half mast today.

He also said that the period of mourning for next-of-kin and members of the Selangor royalty was seven days.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin paid his last respects to Raja Saidatul Ihsan.

Others who paid their last respects were Raja of Perlis Tengku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail and Raja Perempuan of Perlis Tuanku Fauziah Tengku Abdul Rashid, and Raja Muda of Perak Raja Dr Nazrin Shah.  

Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Noh Omar, who is Selangor Umno liaison committee deputy chief, and Selangor state executive councillors also paid their last respects.
