The Muslim-based People's Mental Revolution Movement (Revo) will be launched by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad in October.

According to Bernama, the launching will be held at Stadium Putra in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur where 15,000 people are expected. However, the date has yet to be confirmed.

Revo Steering Committee coordinating chairperson Zulkifli Mohd Alwi said the movement aims to correct misconceptions on Islam and creating greater awareness on current issues.

"Revo is a body with an open attitude and is free from the influence of any non-governmental organisations (NGOs) or political parties, and will be represented by Muslims from all strata of society," he said.

NGOs invited

Zulkifli revealed that a total of 58 NGOs have agreed to join Revo and that more will be invited.

He said a sub-committee would be formed to coordinate the activities of Revo so that the movement could reach out to the grassroots.

Among the activities in the pipeline are symposiums, lectures and campaigns involving students of higher learning institutions, youths and workers throughout the country, he said.

At a coordinating meeting of Revo today, Zulkifli, who is Umno Youth assistant secretary, was made the Revo chairperson and Nadzim Johan, who is president of the Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association, the vice chairperson.
