A motion has been accepted for debate at the PAS Youth general assembly today calling for seats allocated to Pakatan Rakyat components whose elected representatives have jumped to be given to other members of the opposition coalition.

While no mention was made of PKR in the write-up for the motion, PKR is the Pakatan component with the most number of elected representative who have defected to become BN-friendly Independents. PAS has none, while DAP one.

NONE The motion, put forward by the Hulu Langat PAS Youth and seconded by the Sri Gading PAS Youth, will be debated later today after debating the policy speech.

Touching on the matter in his turn at debating the policy speech, Negeri Sembilan delegate Mohd Fairuz Mohd Isa openly identified two such seats, Changkat Jering and Kulim Bandar Bharu.

"These seats must be given to PAS, so that we can reassure and restore the public's confidence and trust in Pakatan.

"If we allow other parties to contest in these seats, then Pakatan may lose the public's trust," he said without mentioning that the seats are problematic as their Pakatan elected representatives have jumped ship.

The motion, if approved and sent up to the central PAS committee for action, may spell more dissent for the opposition coalition whose wrangling over seats has already led to bad blood in the recent Sarawak state election.

But PAS is not the only party eyeing seats belonging to other coalition members, as the DAP has expressed interest to contest Chinese majority seats in the east coast, the traditional stronghold of the Islamic party.

Perlis PAS vice-chief Meor Hassan Sazali Meor Hajar said the leadership of the movement has failed thus far to be an icon for youth in Malaysia, hence they were in danger of failing to lead the youth.

What is missing, he said, is leadership by example, which has led to even the weak Umno Youth to overshadow them.

Echoing this, Kedah PAS Youth vice-chief Ahmad Izzat Shauki hit out at the lacklustre implementation of the movement’s programmes despite the many slogans and impressive speeches.

He added that PAS Youth needs to set measurable KPIs so that they can evaluate their successes and failures.
