Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin today handed out some RM1.4 million in aid and minor projects as he spent the day visiting pro-Pakatan and borderline areas in Kuala Lumpur.

NONE National news agency Bernama reported that Muhyiddin ( left ) announced allocations running into hundreds of thousands of ringgit for at least three locations in the city, as part of the BN government's pledge to resolve the people's problems.

The first handout was made at Taman Billion Mewah, where the deputy premier presented a cheque for RM159,500, intended for 225 NGOs representing Malay, Chinese, Indian and Sikh communities in the Batu parliamentary constituency.

Later in Kampung Pindah, which is part of the city's coveted Malay heartland of Kampung Baru, Muhyiddin announced that the government has set aside RM300,000 to identify the cause of a metre-deep sinkhole in the area that forced the evacuation of 40 families.

He also announced a RM500,000 budget to repair Jalan Syed Mahidi - where the sinkhole appeared - during a walkabout at the Jalan Tun Razak Flats area, which in turn will receive a RM450,000 allocation for a new coat of paint for the flats' seven blocks.

'No hidden intentions'

Aside from the handouts, Muhyiddin also declared that the RM100 monthly social welfare allowance for 17-year-old Fauziana Mohd Yatim, who is wheelchair bound, be raised immediately to RM300, on top of pledging to enrol her into a Mara tailoring course to help fulfil her dream of being gainfully employed.

He later met a group of taxi drivers at a restaurant in Kampung Baru, to listen to their grouses related to summonses, enforcement and the rule imposed by some shopping malls in the city that allows only taxis from their member taxi companies to pick up passengers from their premises.

Muhyiddin said the BN-led government works to solve the people's problems not only during election season, but at all times.

Bernama also quoted him as saying the government does not have any "hidden intentions" in developing Kampung Baru, as it only wanted to ensure that "the valuable national asset is developed in tandem with the development around it."
