The consultative council of the Malay non-governmental organizations (NGOs) today urged PAS and Umno to maintain the prospect of striking a 'partnership' in preserving religion, nation and society.

NONE This was expressed at a dialogue and meeting between the NGOs and Umno Information chief Ahmad Maslan ( left ) at the Menara Dato Onn, in Kuala Lumpur today.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Ahmad said personally he would regard unity as a serious matter and welcomed views from the Malay NGOs that supported the importance of unity for the Malaysian people.

"If the Malays were to be united through various channels like making unity calls so that the Malays are not divided, all Malaysians will benefit from it at the end.

"When talking about the Malay unity it is not meant for the Malays alone but also for all Malaysians of different races.

"This is because when the majority of the community are united, not divided, not fighting with one another and choosing to think positive, this will be good for the future of our country," he said.

President of the Malaysian Malay Professional Thinkers Organisation, Professor Kamarudin Kachar also expressed hope that Umno and PAS can unite and work towards the objective of national development.

"The desire and objective of the Malay NGOs are only to unite the Malays in PAS and Umno to become like brothers as there is only one Malaysia," he said.

The dialogue session among others involved Malay NGOs like the Malaysian Malay Professional Thinkers Organisation, Malaysian Armed Forces Veteran Association, Malaysian Muslim Lawyers Association, the Ikatan Perpaduan Melayu Gombak, Persatuan Hati Nurani and the Malay Consultative Committee that represents 165 other Malay NGOs.
