The Registrar of Societies (ROS) has accepted the reason that Parti Keadilan Rakyat gave as to why it should not be deregistered.

Counsel for PKR R Sivarasa told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today that the ROS had in a letter dated May 30 stated that it was satisfied with the reason given in response to a notice to revoke the registration of the party.

The ROS had in the notice dated May 9 said that PKR had violated an article of the party constitution by sacking A Rajagopal without a disciplinary board hearing.

It gave the party until June 9 to show cause why it should not be deregistered.

PKR in a letter handed to the ROS on May 19 said that there was no member by the name of A Rajagopal sacked on April 1 and April 27, 2009 as stated in the notice and there was no provision in the constitution for a hearing before a sacking.

    

Sivarasa said that PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, in the letter to the ROS, had explained that the party had taken action against a person by the name of A Jayagopal on April 26, 2009.

On May 31, PKR filed an application for a judicial review, asking for a stay on any ROS proceedings before the matter was heard in court.

In light of the ROS decision, PKR on June 3 filed to withdraw the application which named as plaintiffs the party, its president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and Saifuddin.

Sivarasa said that judge Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim allowed the judicial review application to be withdrawn, and the court struck it out.
