Khir Toyo - Umno high priest or sacrificial lamb?
'Dropping the charges against Shamsuddin Hayroni only to keep his mouth shut. There doesn't seem to be any explanation for this action.'
Shamsuddin chokes on testimony against Khir
Soap Opra: It is not against the law to sell anything you own at a cheap price. This will be the definite finding by the court and former Selangor menteri besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo's will be a datuk again.
On the issue, Shamsuddin Hayroni getting millions of ringgit in contracts, the plaintiff will say there is a committee approving the award and Khir was not a party to it. Don't we all know the verdict when it comes to an Umno man?
Raja Chulan: The whole thing is just a show. Khir Toyo was charged due to public pressure. I don't think they actually want Khir Toyo to be found guilty. Shamsuddin turning prosecution witness is also a show.
Khir Toyo and Shamsuddin are still good friends. The charges against Shamsuddin was dropped because continuing the charges against him will open a can of worms in the course of his trial.
If Shamsuddin's trial were to proceed, the deputy public prosecutor will have to show how he had benefited by getting many contracts/favours from Khir/BN/Umno. This Umno doesn't want and cannot afford to reveal to the public. The court cannot find Khir guilty if the DPP cannot prove reciprocity.
The outcome of this drama is all quite predictable:
1) The BN/Umno government has done its job as the public had required;
2) The court finds Khir not guilty due to lack of evidence;
3) Khir and Shamsuddin go free;
4) The public and opposition cannot complain anymore;
5) No more issues - BN/Umno can call 13th GE.
Lulu: I don't know. Is it too much to hope that Khir Toyo's guilt and wrongdoings will be exposed, the judge will rule against him, and he will pay for his alleged crime? This is Malaysia. I really don't know how this will end.
Tell the Truth: Dropping the charges against Shamsuddin is only to keep his mouth shut. There doesn't seem to be any explanation for this action.
Having said that, the people will not get any justice because the prosecutors are on the Umno man's side. How terrible it will be for Umno if Khir Toyo were to be found guilty. As such, the prosecution, the defence and the judge will act for their political master and the result is pretty obvious - not guilty.
The same thing happened during the Altantuya Shaariibuu case when the defence, the prosecution and the judge did not want to involve the PM.
Blue Forest: Khir Toyo will be found guilty. He has to be sacrificed. And there will be another one or two high-profile corruption cases to 'appease' the general public.
Then Najib will call for the 13th general election and all BN parties will be harping on BN government being very serious about tackling corruption. This is will be one of the major BN battlecry for GE13.
Nasir Zihni Yusoff 3999: It's a strategic move to remove Khir Toyo, who is seen now as a liability for Selangor Umno. It's for Noh Omar and Ezam Mohd Noor to lead the way and win back Selangor at all costs.
NRD says no to 'Anak Malaysia'
David Dass: Is a new race created when a child of a mixed marriage is born? What happens when that child marries a member of a third racial group?
Can a person opt out of a racial group? Does society have to deal with such questions? What is the relevance of racial classification for the bureaucracy?
Is Malaysia not pleased that there are Malaysians who wish to classify themselves as Malaysians? Why is that a bad idea? Will the emergence of a new Malaysian race complicate our politics or will it simplify it?
There is, of course, the insistence on the part of some who cannot be a Malay without being a Muslim. But what is the big deal for a child of a mixed marriage to be called a Malaysian?
I think that the Orang Asli would be better off if they were called Malaysians. A child of a white parent and an Asian parent is called a Eurasian. What can you call the child of an Indian father and a Chinese mother? In Singapore, the government has adopted the term 'Chindian'. 1Malaysia or 2Malaysias?
Jasril: I agree with the idea of ‘Anak Malaysia'. But question is why Subang Jaya assemblyperson Hannah Yeoh choose to put her child as Chinese when the father is Indian?
Jiminy Qrikert: What happens when a man from a matriarchal society marries a woman from a patriarchal society? What then is the race? To follow the father or the mother? What about a matriarchal woman marrying a patriarchal man? What is the race?
It's Ramachandran Muniandy's and Hannah Yeoh's business what they want to put down as 'race.' To your silly racist question (why write Chinese as the baby's ethnicity?) - what's wrong with 'Chinese'? By your very own logic, is it because the Chinese are deemed unsuitable to you?
Does the choice of Indian offer you better prospects than choosing Chinese? Or is it your chauvinistic, bigoted nature to defend the right of the 'race' to claim its own?
Phang Thiam: I refused to fill in the column for race, writing tongue-in-cheek, "I run the 100m race". Most times, I refused to fill in that column. I never thought of saying ‘anak Malaysia'. All of us should follow Hannah and Ram's example and fill in ‘anak Malaysia' or just ‘Malaysian'.
Kgen: Ethnic identification is crucial to Umno's policy of racial preferential treatment. Perkasa will have some choice words to say about this soon.
KJ blasts critics of Najib's Kazakhstan visit
Tell the Truth: Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, why get so flustered? After all, PM Najib Abdul Razak didn't think you deserve to be minister, so why try to please him? Don't be so judgmental.
Anonymous: If I were Khairy, I would just mention that the trip is pre-planned casually. Why is he so worked up? Najib is a grown up who can defend himself, even though everybody knows he did not even sue P Balasubramaniam over his statutory declarations.
I thought Khairy was a decent guy. I didn't think he is capable of such shameless fawning. Who knows if Najib postponed his trip to coincide with his daughter's wedding?
PM: Good governance is natural to Muslim nations
Cala: If the concept of ‘good governance' meant anything to PM Najib, all those things - such as embezzlement of RM500 million from Felda account, commission of RM500 million to a company over a submarine deal, lopsided IPP contracts, the Perak power grab, persecution of opposition leaders (for example, Sodomy II), fanning of racists rhetoric by Utusan Malaysia , open bribing of electorates during ‘buy-elections', using public funds to campaign for the 13th GE during a youth gathering in Putrajaya recently, etc - would not have taken place under his very nose.
Like every so-called Umno-led BN leader, he has feels nothing about the words coming from his mouth. Indeed, the words sound hollow, empty, and unreal.
Anonymous: I don't how Najib can keep himself from giggling when he delivered his rubbish speech. The things he preached is so fake that it is laughable. Good governance may be natural to Muslim nations, but certainly not natural to Umno leaders.
