He said "the success of the ministry's social networking campaign, including advertising, will be measured based on the national return of investment in terms of an increase in domestic tourists." Tell me, Mr Deputy Minister, did you actually write this or did it come to you in a sudden flash from the Blue Sky?

Ro$m@h: Just wondering: in this age when anybody can just get information on any kampung just by the click of the mouse, does anybody really need an 'official' Facebook page to get information on a country?

Furthermore, with the country being famous for all the wrong reasons, would any potential tourist trust anything echoed by the government on that page? How about posting pictures of our great immigration officers enforcing their standard operating procedures on some helpless women tourists on Facebook? That would surely attract visitors, no?

Don't Play God: The sickening part is that these Umno lackeys can do anything stupid and still get voted in by bigger idiots. If you need someone to maintain a Facebook account, you only need to pay a few hundred ringgit a month to maintain it.

Or better still, send some computer-literate staff in the department for a crash course in website maintenance and then assign that person to maintain it. That person need only maintain it once a week, and perhaps spend a few hours on the computer. Do we need to even suggest this?

Immigration completes 'nude squat' probe

AntiRacial: The Singaporeans are to be faulted for driving through the closed Immigration lane without their passports being checked, but the action taken by the immigration officers which humiliated them is not acceptable. All officers serving the public (including immigration officers) should always bear in mind they are representing Malaysia and their actions reflect the Malaysian image. Every time there is an issue involving Singaporeans in Malaysia, Singapore Yahoo definitely publishes the issue on their front page. What a shame!

David Dass: This is what the rule of law means. Everyone, whether he be the King or a policeman or immigration official, has to abide by the law. The law does not allow arbitrary arrest and detention. The law also does not allow nude-squatting. Policemen and immigration officers cannot indulge in capricious and whimsical conduct.

There is evidence of widespread breach of the rule of law. This must be arrested. We must move forward in establishing an enduring civilisation and not lurch backward into our feudal past. We must remember that the democratic and legal structures and processes that we have adopted are relatively new to us. They have been good for us, and there is no doubt that they are good for us.

There are some in our midst who chafe at the constraints that these structures and rules place on their conduct. We must discipline them. We must contain them. We are irreversibly a country governed by the rule of law.

Artchan: Actually, the unmanned Immigration post was for the syndicates to move in illegal immigrants. That was why it was left opened. So these two Singapore ladies accidentally screwed up the loophole. Otherwise how can you explain leaving an unmanned lane open?

Anonymous_3e0b: What an unfortunate incident. These officers have either not been properly trained for their job or they were just performing their duty in wanting to see if any prohibited items are hidden inside these poor girls' apparel. Drugs, maybe? Let's pray that some indecent guys, always up to mischief, were not around to video-tape them. Or else, what implications the incident can bring about is beyond our fears and imagination.
