Former Penang PKR Wanita head Aminah Abdullah has filed a defamation suit for RM6 million against five individuals and PAS over an article about her published in the 20-22 May

edition of the Harakah newspaper.

penanti by election aminah abdullah pc 280509 02 She filed the suit through law firm Ambar & Azah at the High Court in Georgetown, Penang, about 11.20am today.

She named Penang PKR Wanita head Norhayati Jaafar, Jelutong PKR deputy head Jab Samad, Jelutong PKR secretary Anuar Kamaruddin, Harakah reporter Mohd Sabri Said, Harakah chief editor Ahmad Lutfi Othman and PAS as defendants.

She claimed the first three defendants issued slanderous statements of a personal nature against her with the intention to tarnish and discredit her good name and reputation, during a press conference at Galeri Pejuang, Cheruk Tok Kun, Bukit Mertajam around May 20-21 this year.

penanti by election aminah abdullah pc 280509 01 She further claimed the fourth and fifth defendants wrote and published, respectively, the article based on the press statements in the May 20-22 2011 edition of the Harakah newspaper.

PAS was named as owners of the said newspaper.

Aminah claimed the article had cast aspersions on her as a person without religious faith, having no knowledge of Islam and receiving bribes from Umno, and alleged to have urged PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to divorce her husband Anwar Ibrahim.

 

She claimed general damages for slander amounting to RM1 million each from the first three defendants and general damages for libel of RM1 million each from the last three defendants.
