An Indian national, R Narayanan, 24, was charged in the magistrate’s court in Klang today with murdering lawyer and businessman R Anbalagan.

Narayanan, the victim’s worker, is alleged to have hacked Anbalagan to death with a parang at the Sri Ramalingeswarari temple in Jalan Kebun Baru, Kampung Perepat in Klang at 9.30pm on Monday.  

The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction, was read out to the accused in Tamil by the court interpreter before magistrate Nadia Othman.  

The accused told the court he understood the charge, however no plea was recorded.  

Hearing has been fixed for July 20.

The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Shahrul Ekhsan Hasim while Narayanan was unrepresented.  

On Monday, Anbalagan’s Indonesian maid was reported as having witnessed the accused chasing her employer with a parang and shortly after found Anbalagan dead with slash wounds all over his body.
