"However, (we) have decided to leave vacant the two seats for the time being in the event they change their mind."
"If after one month's time there is still no change in their decision, the state committee would proceed to co-opt two new persons to fill the vacancies," he added
Rejected unity list
Just prior to the state election, former state chief M Manoharan had proposed a '
unity list
' as a way to solve the bitter in-fighting. Going by the list, eight committee seats will be granted to Liu-aligned members, six to Manoharan's group, and one to Teng.
Liu however rejected the unity list - despite that the proposal could have potentially united the state leadership - resulting in his side clinching an overwhelming win at the polls, with Manoharan ousted from the committee.
Both Bandar Klang state assembly person Teng and Kannan had only managed to garner enough votes to obtain the positions of committee members within the 15-member committee.
They expressed their desire of not remaining as stumbling blocks to Liu in managing the state committee with the team of his choice, as reasons for stepping down.
Meanwhile, Liu announced that the state committee has appointed five new non-voted members into the committee. They are Jack Wong as assistant secretary, G Vickneswaran as assistant organising sercretary, Ean Yong Hian Wah as assistant publicity secretary, Teoh Li Peng as Assistant Treasurer, and Chang She-Yun as assistant women affairs secretary.
