The government is unperturbed about the recent attack by hackers on 198 local websites including government portals, said Information Commuication and Culture Minister Dr Rais Yatim.

rais yatim pc 020709 01 "Malaysia as a democratic country has its laws to punish those responsible," he told reporters after opening a badminton friendly match between his team Pasukan D'sury and Malaysian Handicraft, at the National Craft Institute in Rawang today.

He said the results of investigations pertaining to the cyber attacks by the hackers including a group calling itself 'Anonymous' would be revealed as soon as the relevant authorities had identified the culprits.

"To us, they have not won at all. It is not a threat we should fear. The damage was not on a large scale and did not cripple the system," he assured.

Penang should honour Agong’s advice

Meanwhile, Rais said that Malays in Penang must review the management of mosque committees to avoid any political interference in religious matters.

Rais said the state government should honour Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin's advice to defer the 2012/2013 mosque committee election which was scheduled to start today.

"Lim Guan Eng (Penang chief minister) must understand that Islamic matters fall under the jurisdiction of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, including Penang, Malacca, Sabah and Sarawak.

"However, when even the mosque committee selection becomes a political matter, I guess he, (Lim) has lost his memory on the judiciary in this issue," he told reporters when asked to comment on the DAP-led state government's plan to introduce elections for mosque committees, just like the general election.

The state government had last week announced that election for mosque committees involving about 200 mosques in Penang would be held from June 18 to July 23.

Earlier, Rais officially opened a badminton friendly match between his team D'sury and Kraftangan Malaysia at Institut Kraf Negara here today.
