AirAsia Bhd has selected CFM International’s advanced LEAP engines to power its 200 Airbus A320neo aircraft.
In a statement today, AirAsia said it was scheduled to take delivery of the planes in 2016, the largest order in aviation history.
“To support the A320neo fleet, AirAsia has also signed a 20-year RPFH (rate per flight hour) agreement with CFM to provide comprehensive engine maintenance service," it said.
AirAsia group chief executive officer Tony Fernandes said the benefits of LEAP technology included improvements in fuel burn, emissions and noise.
“These will have a huge impact on our bottom line and fuel our future growth," the statement said.
