A nine-year-old Iraqi girl who has been receiving treatment in Malaysia after the loss of both legs during the US-led war on Iraq is due to return home next month, local media reported today.

Yasmine Wa'adi, who has been accompanied by her father Wa'adi Makhtoor Hassan for the past two months, will return to Iraq on Sept 6, once certified medically fit, the New Straits Times said.

She had undergone surgery here to remove shrapnel from her severed knees after she lost both her legs in a bomb attack on her house in Baghdad.

She is scheduled to receive prosthetic legs here soon.

"I look forward to walking again. I am happy to go home, but would like to come and visit Malaysia again," Yasmine was quoted as saying by the daily through an interpreter.

Her plight caught the attention of many Malaysians with a flood of donations pouring in from the government-backed anti-war coalition Peace Malaysia and various non-governmental organisations. - AFP
