Federal Territories and Urban Well-being Minister Raja Nong Chik Zainal Abidin today urged residents of urban areas to evaluate their support for opposition parties.

NONE He said opposition leaders who have long been given support had clearly failed to provide the best service to the people.

He said his experience in administering urban areas especially in the federal capital, found a large portion of the opposition members of parliament were only good at criticising the government but poor in taking care of the people's welfare.  

"Opposition MPs heavily depend on the services provided by the BN government to look after the voters in their constituencies," he said.

Raja Nong Chik was speaking to reporters after launching an Urban Well-being Programme here today where 200 poor families including 40 students received various assistance.    

Opposition leaders do not do much work

            

He said his ministry would unwaveringly provide its services to all residents in the urban areas impartially even though a large portion of the urban areas in Federal Territory, Selangor, Sarawak, Pulau Pinang and Perak are under opposition control.

He said residents should think and evaluate which party was actually the one dishing out services, opening business opportunities and looking after the poor.

While opposition leaders do not do much work for the people but come election, voters will still not consider the services provided by government leaders, he added.          

On the urban poverty eradication programme, Raja Nong Chik said RM19 million had been allocated from January to June 1 with 93,278 families categorised as urban poor throughout the country.
