Beside Azmin's mum, how many EC errors are there?

your say 'Those of legal voting age should register themselves to prevent these phantom voters from registering.'

EC confirms 'phantoms' in the house of Azmin's mum

Bender: The fact that the Election Commission admitted to this alone justifies Bersih's plan to march. Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and Perkasa therefore have no legitimate reason to organise a counter-march.

As for the mistake and the powerlessness of the EC to take action, I personally think that is absurd. Who allowed for the phantom registration to take place in the first place? Wasn't it the EC? How come they were able to make the mistakes and then not able to correct them?

Democracy cannot flourish in this kind of environment - something which the ruling government is well aware, but prefer not to do anything about it (in fact, they must be the one who instigated it) because that's how they managed to cling to power all these while.

Bluemountains: Providing fictitious information to the EC is an offence under the law. Is the EC going to track down the six 'culprits'? There is no excuse for not doing so because their IC numbers are available.

It will be interesting to know who the real culprit is once the six persons have been tracked down.

Anonymous_3e86: Just before the 2008 general elections, I was told that phantom voters existed.

A friend of mine who had yet to register as a voter decided to check her status online. To her disbelief, she found that she was registered as a voter. But she was registered in another constituency which she has not lived in before.

Those of legal voting age should register themselves to prevent these phantom voters from registering. Somehow BN has managed to find names of unregistered voters and have them registered instead.

The EC is pretending that Azmin's case is an ‘error'. But we know that there are many more ‘errors' out there.

Ksn: In this case, the EC is caught with it pants down and the excuse is genuine error. Does the EC not use the database available in the NRD (National Registration Department) to counter check the voters details such as their citizenship and addresses. All these are easily verifiable.

Now that this matter of wrong addresses has come out in the open with the EC's own admission, can the EC undertake that process to verify the entire voters list to ensure that only those entitled to vote can do so and to ensure there are no duplications?

This process will improve the image of the EC, now severely tarnished, a little in the public's eye. What say you, EC chief?

Ben Hor: This is an excellent example of why we need to clean up the EC. The EC themselves admitted the fault and its powerless to do anything about it. Why is the government so afraid of Bersih 2.0 then when it strives (and probably more than happy to help) to correct/fix the current electoral system.

Malaysian Born: The EC is supposed to be entirely independent, politicians should rightfully tremble at the thought of coming under its scrutiny. It was never meant to be the ruling government's rubber stamp.

When you allow this most important authority to be subjugated to political interests, you betray a very sacred trust which will affect the future well-being of our children. Stand up for their future and resist the forces around you. Stay true to the spirit of being the people's guardian.

Isa@1penyu: For all we know, Azmin Ali could have planted them. Nevertheless, the system does not allow one to vote without one's IC, so where the voter is registered does not matter. As such, there is no need to make a big ‘hoo haa' over this issue.

If the EC is really a partner of BN, how come in the last elections even prime states like Selangor and Penang can be taken over by Pakatan Rakyat?

Anonymous: Isa@1penyu, why do I keep hearing this dumb statement? It's just as easy for me to say if EC is not in partnership with BN, Pakatan would have taken over Putrajaya or Sarawak.

The fact that Pakatan won some states does not mean the elections are free and fair. And the fact that BN lost did not mean they didn't try to cheat.

20121221Disaster: Why are only cases concerned Azmin Ali discovered? I am pretty sure there are thousands, if not millions, of such cases across the country.

I am still an MCA member and when I was an active member, I not only witnessed such activity carried out within the party, but my own name was used for the purpose of making sure that the then MCA candidate will have a higher chance of winning.

4EverMalaysian: This is the first time the EC has admitted its error. There could be hundreds of thousands of wrongly or erroneously registered voters. My good friend during the haj in Mecca told me that he voted in Johor Bahru - four times at different places. Later, he left Umno, became a better person and performed the pilgrimage with me.

Everybody knows about this issue, but EC is ignoring it. Bersih 2.0 must go on. No two ways about it.

Quigonbond: EC is taking the easy way out by saying it's powerless. That's simply absurd. People don't just file wrong address. These are phantom voters. EC has their IC numbers and names. It should lodge a police report so that the police can carry out an investigation for electoral fraud.

Anonymous: This is one more good reason to participate in the Bersih rally.
