COLOMBO - Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is due to visit Malaysia next month in a bid to boost bilateral trade and secure investments, officials here said today.

Wickremesinghe is due to start his two-day official visit on Sept 9, they said.

Sri Lanka's Constitutional Affairs Minister GL Peiris is travelling to Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday in a bid to woo Malaysian investments into the island.

After the government entered into a truce with Tamil Tiger rebels in February last year, the administration has been trying to encourage overseas Tamils to invest in the island and support the Norwegian-backed peace bid.

Peiris, who is also the government's chief peace negotiator, is also in charge of the island's Board of Investment.

His visit also comes at a time when Tamil Tiger rebels are meeting in Paris to respond to the Colombo government's latest proposals to revive the stalled peace process. - AFP
