New born party, Parti Kita has unveiled its manifesto detailing lofty promises to the masses in time for the next general election.

In the 10-point manifesto, the party helmed by former Umno- turned-PKR leader Zaid Ibrahim ( below ) had notably called for a ‘responsible, honest and principled leadership', as their first point.

NONE "The Official Secrets Act (OSA) is to be reviewed so that its scope is strictly confined to state secrets. It must not be used to protect the wrongdoings and secrets of public office holders and political leaders," said the manifesto.

It also called for a ceiling for the top political leaders' terms.

"Menteri Besars, Chief Ministers and Prime Ministers will have a term limit of two terms of five years each," said the manifesto launched yesterday.

Under political reforms, it said that Kuala Lumpur City Hall and other local councils will be directly elected by the people.

"This will go a long way in bringing about more efficient and accountable local government administration. The position of Federal Territories Minister will no longer be necessary," it said.

Goodies for the people

Like most manifestos, Parti Kita also promised a load of goodies for the people, including a dividend of at least eight percent for the Employees Provident Fund as well as the introduction of a RM1,200 minimum wage per month across various sectors.

KITA also proposed replacing the New Economic Policy with a Bumiputera Support Policy, identifying the key areas and extent of help needed.

Despite the word ‘bumiputera' in its name, the party said that provision of support will be based on the "actual needs rather than ethnic, racial or political considerations".

  • Educational reforms;
  • Economic reforms;
  • Freedom and liberty;
  • True unity in Malaysia; and,
  • Help Malaysians realise their potential.
