National oil company Petronas has been awarded a petroleum exploration block in Sudan, its eighth in the African country.

Petronas will hold a 77 percent interest in the block through Petronas Carigali Overseas while the remaining equity is shared between Sudan's national oil company Sudapet (15 percent) and High Tech Group (eight percent), a Sudanese company.
