Bernama today denied issuing a text message stating hat Parliament would be dissolved on Monday.

Its editor-in-chief Yong Soo Heong said: "We regret that some irresponsible elements had resorted to using the SMS (short message system) to manipulate the minds of the people with the aim of creating chaos and confusion while scheming their ulterior motives.

"Technology is a double-edged sword and it is best to use it judiciously and wisely. This is not the first time that unscrupulous people have resorted to riding on Bernama 's extensive distribution channels and reputation," he said in a statement issued in Kuala Lumpur today.

"We call on those who had received the SMS purportedly linking the prime minister to an alleged dissolution of Parliament on Monday to ignore it completely," he said.

Yong said Bernama will work with the authorities to track down the perpetrators of the false and outrageous SMS.
