The Denial of Service (DOS) attack against Malaysiakini servers ceased yesterday morning.

The attack which began at 5pm on Friday, was similar to the attack against Malaysiakini servers during the Sarawak election.

However, this time around, Malaysiakini news servers remained online during the entire period of the attack.

“Thanks to our tech team, the changes we made to our server infrastructure were able to deflect the attack,” said Malaysiakini CEO Premesh Chandran.

“However, the attacks still affected our subscription service Manage4me, so we decided to make the site accessible to all during the attack,” explained Premesh. Malaysiakini will be bringing back all its services online by this evening.

According to Google Analytics, Malaysiakini was visited by 726,000 unique readers on Saturday. This includes 202,000 readers accessing the site via mobile devices.

Readers also accessed Malaysiakini on the Facebook and Wordpress platforms, although Malaysiakini does not track statistics on these sites.

Malaysiakini 's videos have been similarly popular. Yellow arrest’ was watched over 260,000 times.

Several other Bersih videos on Malaysiakini 's YouTube page received well over 100,000 views.
