A nine-year-old Iraqi girl who was flown to Malaysia for treatment after the loss of both legs during the US-led war on Iraq has returned home, reports said today.

Yasmine Wa'adi, who has been accompanied by her father Wa'adi Makhtoor Hassan for the past two months, boarded a Royal Jordanian Airlines flight to Amman, enroute to Baghdad late last night.

She had undergone surgery after she lost both legs in a bomb attack on her house in Baghdad.

She was fitted with prosthetic legs here two weeks ago.

"Thank you Malaysia," Yasmine was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times .

12-hour ride

"I have to go to Iraq today, but Insyallah (God-willing) I will return to Malaysia again," she said.

They would arrive in Amman today and travel 12 hours by road across the border at Al-Qaramah to Baghdad.

Her plight caught the attention of many Malaysians, who sent donations pouring in, as well as the government-backed anti-war coalition Peace Malaysia and various non-governmental organisations, which also pledged aid. - AFP
