The Kuala Lumpur High Court has set Aug 3 to hear the Sarawak chief minister's preliminary objection to the leave application for judicial review filed by Bersih 2.O chairperson S Ambiga to challenge a notice refusing her entry into Sarawak during the last state election.

NONE High Court Judge Rohana Yusuf fixed the date after meeting both parties in chambers today.

Counsel James Khong, representing Ambiga, told reporters that Abdul Taib Mahmud (left) had stated in the application that he was not a state authority to be named in the judicial review application.

Khong said Abdul Taib also stated that the subject matter could not be reviewed under the Immigration Act 1959/63.

On May 23, Ambiga filed the leave for judicial review, naming the director-general of the Malaysian Immigration Department and Sarawak Immigration director and Abdul Taib as respondents.

Senior federal counsel Azizah Nawawi is representing the Immigration Department, while Sarawak legal advisor JC Fong is acting for Abdul Taib.

NONE In the judicial review application, Ambiga is seeking to quash the notice of refusal of entry dated April 15 issued by the Sarawak Immigration director.

Ambiga also wants an order from the High Court to compel the respondents to allow her to enter Sarawak.

She is seeking damages and costs and further relief deemed fit by the court.

Ambiga was barred from entering Sarawak during the 10-day election campaign last April.
