The wife of top Asian terror suspect Hambali is cooperating with interrogators in Malaysia, police chief Norian Mai said today.

Malaysian-born Noralwizah Lee Abdullah is providing information on the activities of the al-Qaeda-linked Jemaah Islamiah (JI) terror network, Norian told reporters.

Noralwizah ( photo ) was arrested along with her Indonesian husband in Thailand last month and handed over to the Malaysian authorities, while Hambali himself is in US custody.

Norian gave no details of the sort of information Noralwizah was providing and said police were still awaiting US permission to interrogate Hambali, who lived in Malaysia for several years.

"We are certain that whatever statements we can get from Hambali will help in our investigations concerning JI activities in the country," he was quoted as saying by the official Bernama news agency.

Hambali, also known as Riduan Isamuddin, is said to have been the main link between Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda and JI.

JI is blamed for a string of attacks in Southeast Asia, including last year's Bali blasts which killed 202 people and last month's bombing of the Marriott hotel in Jakarta in which 12 people died.

Norian said Malaysia had arrested 92 Islamic militants, mainly members of JI.

The suspects have been picked up over the past two years and are being held under security laws which allow detention without trial.

The United States ordered a freeze on the assets of 10 Malaysians at the weekend after adding them to a list of alleged members of the JI network.

The 10 Malaysians were already listed as terror suspects by Malaysian authorities and six are in detention -- five in Malaysia and one in Indonesia, a senior security official told AFP. - AFP
