The Sessions Court in Shah Alam today fixed Aug 8 for mention of the case involving Sri Muda State assemblyperson Shuhaimi Shafiei, 43, who was charged with publishing an article containing seditious statements on his blog, http://srimuda.blogspot.com , on Dec 30 last year.
Judge Slamat Yahya set the date following an application by lawyer V Jeya Kumar, who represented Shuhaimi,to postpone the case pending a decision by the High Court on his client’s application for the charge against him to be dropped.
Deputy public prosecutor Dalira Din appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer Amalina Abdul Rashid held a watching brief for the Sultan of Selangor.
On Feb 7, Shuhaimi, who is the Kota Raja PKR deputy chief, pleaded not guilty to a charge of publishing an article on his blog questioning the powers of the Sultan of Selangor in relation to the appointment of Mohamad Khusrin Munawi as Selangor state secretary.
The offence was alleged to have been committed at the community service centre, 6/2, Jalan Anggerik Vanilla, R 31/R, Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam.
On April 1, Shuhaimi filed a notice to strike out the charges against him on the basis that the Sedition Act 1948 contravened Article 10 of the federal constitution.
