Five former Universiti Malaya students who were acquitted by the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court last year of a charge of committing mischief and arson in the “Rosmah evil wife” graffiti case, remain free.

rosmah in graffiti case universiti malaya student activists mohd izzuddin This is because the public prosecutor has decided to withdraw its appeal at the Kuala Lumpur High Court yesterday, after they were acquitted last Sept 24.

The five - Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin, Muhammad Aizat Roslan, Muhammad Saufi Jelani, Mohd Izzuddin Hilmi Mohd Zaini and Mohd Syahruldeen Ahmad Rosli - were acquitted of three charges of committing mischief, arson and trespass at a lecture hall at Universiti Malaya at about 4am on June 24, 2009.

The former students were alleged to have painted the words ‘ pembunuh Altantuya ’ (Altantuya’s murderer) and ‘ bini puaka ’ (evil wife).

The decision to withdraw the appeal was confirmed by their lawyer, Mohd Razlan Jalaluddin, as the application was made before the High Court deputy registrar yesterday.

“The prosecutor is not interested to proceed with the appeal. Hence, they remain free,” said Razlan.

All five have completed their studies.
