Entertainment outlets in Selangor can operate as normal during Ramadan but must respect sensitivities of Muslims during the holy month, said Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

He said the state would not prevent Muslims from patronising entertainment outlets during Ramadan but they must be aware of Muslims sensitivities about the month.

"The Ramadan month is a month where Muslims fulfill additional religious obligations and as such, entertainment outlets must take this into consideration and not offend Muslims sensiitivities," he told reporters after opening a seminar on work ethics in the Islamic context in Shah Alam today.

He urged non-Muslims to also celebrate the month by joining Muslims in the breaking of the fast when invited.

Recently, the Selangor Islamic Religious Council stated that it had no jurisdiction to enforce bans on entertainment outlets in Selangor during Ramadan and that it was up to the state legislature to enact new enactments should the state government want to impose such restrictions.
