Rosmah and the RM24 mil 'bling bling'

vox populi small thumbnail 'But you know what, the diamond ring, the handbags, the jet-setting, the Hollywood and Bollywood stuff is so ‘you'.'

Rosmah: Diamond ring allegation a slander

Ferdtan: With Rosmah Mansor's refusal to comment further on the diamond ring allegation, it makes the 'rumour' juicy.

The pertinent questions that were not answered are many. One was why the parcel containing the ring was addressed to her. She must answer why her name was used by unknown person/persons to defraud the Customs to avoid tax?

Did she actually receive the ring? Where is the diamond ring now?

We need clear answers, not a frivolous summary dismissal of the allegation. She is no ordinary person - a PM's wife at that, hence she needs to provide a more thorough explanation before the public can be satisfied that she is indeed slandered.

Louis: The ring was addressed to a Rosmah Mansor, and how many Rosmahs in Malaysia are there who can afford such an expensive ring?

Such wild allegation cannot be just dismissed with "I don't have time for this". Sue the rumour monger. In fact, a woman of your standing should have a battalion of lawyers at your disposal. If it is truly a slander, go for it.

Tkc: What is most despicable about our so-called First Couple is that whenever they have their backs against the wall, they always brush things off as "small matter' or "trivial" or "no time" or something to that effect.

Rosmah and Najib, if you have not lived so glamourously and arrogantly using taxpayers' money, we would have given you the benefit of the doubt.

But you know what, the diamond ring, the handbags, the jet-setting, the Hollywood and Bollywood stuff is so ‘you'. And you got the bloody cheek to tell us to tighten our belts?

Anonymous_3ec6: Nobody will believe you, Rosmah. Will you swear on the Quran that you didn't buy it, just like your husband never met Altantuya Shaariibuu?

Mangodurian : And by now all records of the transactions in the Customs' systems would have been deleted, along with any other current and future imports of luxury items.

Jazz Singer: I don't understand. Why would someone buying a 24 million ring need to have it shipped to her, and in the process end up with this mess. Couldn't she or her agent just go to the states and bring it to Malaysia by wearing the ring, thus avoiding all this scrutiny?

BernieBaby: If Rosmah walked into the Jacob & Co store to purchase a RM24 million ring, it would be the most foolish thing for her to do so as she would have advertised her purchase to the Malaysian public. So the best way was to use a proxy, Jeremy Beh, to get the ring on her behalf.

From what I can make out, there is a 1% insurance on the item and over US$500 for freight. So it's not your regular PosLaju that brought the item in.

Gen2: It is not about the ring. It is about Rosmah seeking self-glorification. It is about her wanting to be higher than the DYMM Raja Permaisuri Agung.

It is about a person who is out of her class and behaves out of her class but doesn't know it while the people around her are laughing behind her back at her miserable attempts to show she has got class.

Do you know why we love Dr Siti Hasmah even though we pilloried Mahathir? Because she has got class, she knows she has got class and doesn't need to flaunt it.

Cala: What can I say? Imelda Marcos was condemned the world over for possessing hundreds of pairs of shoes - a fact made known after she and the former president of the Philippines fled in a hurry in the face of a popular revolt.

No matter how successful a person, ostentatious show of materialistic liking is to be despised. On the other hand, working hard and honestly, and delaying gratification are traits that should be encouraged.

I suppose Dr Mahathir Mohamad had reasons to bemoan at the lack of those traits when he remarked, "The Malays have only emerged over 44 years as a race with a modern civilisation.

"In that time, a dignified and respected race has been forged and raised. But it hasn't matured yet, hasn't reached its possible peak. Unfortunately there are already signs that this young and fragile civilisation will decline rapidly" (see Khoo Boo Teik, 2003, p 189 in ‘Beyond Mahathir: Malaysian politics and its discontents')

Sashideran : We are heading towards becoming a nation where the rich become richer and the poor (like us taxpayers) become poorer and poorer.

The Inland Revenue Board should disclose the account of income tax collected from Rosmah. Show the proof to the people if you dare.

Bertrand Russell: Are you sleeping MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission)? Get to the bottom of it. Find out who is the owner of the diamond and who imported it without paying any taxes.

A report has already been lodged and you are still waiting for the cows to come home?

Anonymous_40a7: Rosmah, in Malaysia, you are considered "guilty until proven innocent". So, prove it then.
